When Sleep Is The Most Spiritual Thing You Can Do
When someone finally unplugs from the matrix to give themselves 3 days in the wilderness, or a retreat center, it is not uncommon that all they can do is sleep often. Their body knows what it needs. Their soul knows what it needs, but often they, did not know. When this happens, sleep is the most spiritual thing you can do.
The body keeps the score, but the Spirit rules the game.
People do not realize they are asleep spiritually as they sleep through their waking hours each day, but that sleep in the wilderness begins to do its work and vision begins to emerge. Like Jacob, they begin to dream in Reality as they realize God was here all along, and they hadn’t noticed. As they begin to notice they start to wake up spiritually, even while dreaming, which begins the process of being awake while physically awake and physically sleeping. There is no longer a veil or broken connection to separate them from Reality, from God.
When people are spiritually sleeping when awake, they are longing for a Helper. They are longing for wholeness. All they know is that something is missing. Something is not good. So God causes a deep sleep to come upon them so that what is within them can come out. The Helper they desire to know now emerges, like a new creation, a new perspective on heaven and earth. As they wake up, all the things they previously named take their proper place in the Story, now they are realizing their own name and the names of others. Now they are starting to live into their name rather than defining everything around and within them.
Now the Book of Life has been opened to them. The book was always open but now they can read it, their spiritual eyes opened to see everything that has been written before the foundation of the world. Where there are blank pages, living in their name participates in the creation process of what is still being written. This participation is partnering with the Helper that has emerged from within, the Spirit of God placed there from the beginning. Now they have been born again, born from the beginning mysteriously remembering the Word of all words.
When you find that Word that already found you, your life communicates the Reality of God to the world, even when they cannot yet see it. Here you invite them to the wilderness, to a 3 day retreat, where a deep sleep can come upon them initiating the process of awakening. As has been said elsewhere, modernity is only 3 days deep, so in the wilderness, modernity wears off and spiritual awakening emerges from behind the veil to reveal what has been there all along. God is in this place, in you, and a new creation is emerging. The cocoon has done its work and the butterfly emerges to express itself in the world. That expression of your life is why you are here. You no longer hold onto the unexpressed life, hanging onto your potential.
You now have wrestled with God and man, and persisted.
Now you must persist in helping others do the same. To serve humanity. To serve their awakening. The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few, go into the wilderness, become brand new.

You do not go on a 3 day retreat with the intention to sleep, but to awaken.
